West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet's injury issues are solved, claims France boss Didier Deschamps

The injury problems that have plagued the start of Dimitri Payet's season at West Ham have been "solved", according to France manager Didier Deschamps.

Payet has been restricted to just 24 minutes of Premier League football this season, with his ongoing absence contributing to a disappointing run of results for Slaven Bilic's side.

The 29-year-old was not included in the Hammers' matchday squad against Manchester City at the weekend, which saw sections of the club's fanbase pining for the return of their talisman.

Payet's inclusion in Les Bleus' squad for the current international break, despite his failure to appear for West Ham at the Etihad Stadium, raised eyebrows in east London but Deschamps is adamant the midfielder has overcome his injury problems.

"The way he started this season is a little complicated. He started later and had some little issues physically speaking. But today it is solved," Deschamps explained.

"I'm going to deal with him especially during this time with the group because he didn't start any games with his club."

France face Italy in an international friendly on Thursday night before starting their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign against Belarus five days later.

West Ham are not in action again until they face Watford at the London Stadium on September 10, with Bilic recently admitting Payet's return from injury has the potential to "totally change" his side.

Payet was a leading light for his nation at Euro 2016 and scored three goals en route to the final, where the host nation lost out to Portugal.

Deschamps has challenged his countryman to continue to provide similarly consistent performances in the future after fading during the latter stages of the tournament this summer.

"Dimitri had a great season last year. He had a great Euros - he performed well and was a decisive player at first.

"After playing so many games in a row we saw that he wasn't really used to it and started to become a little tired towards the end of the competition.

"He, however, started to become more consistent and has to keep that level," Deschamps insisted.
