West Ham player ratings vs Brentford: Distracted Hammers barely show up in derby defeat

West Ham had more than one eye on their Europa Conference League semi-final as they fell to a dismal defeat at Brentford.

It was another tough day at the office for the likes of Nayef Aguerd and midfield pair Tomas Soucek and Pablo Fornals amid a sea of underwhelming displays, though David Moyes will have Angelo Ogbonna to thank for the scoreline staying as it was.

Here’s how David Moyes’s side rated at the Gtech Community Stadium...

Lukasz Fabianski 5

Should have kept out Mbeumo’s opener but let shot under him. A couple of top saves after that.

Ben Johnson 3

Academy graduate’s decline is a real concern. Given a torrid time by pacy pair of Schade and Henry. Did force Raya into his most challenging save, though.

Nayef Aguerd 4

Hospital pass to Downes led to opener, then beaten in air by Wissa for the second.

Angelo Ogbonna 7

Made a brilliant tackle to deny Wissa in six-yard box and then a great block from Mbeumo. West Ham’s best player.

Emerson 4

Came off second best in tussle with Mbeumo.

Tomas Soucek 4

Terrible pass almost gifted Brentford third but Wissa shot wide.

Flynn Downes 4

Lucky not to be booked for early foul on Damsgaard. Had pocket picked in build-up to opener.

Manuel Lanzini 6

The liveliest of the deputies, probably ought to have played more earlier in the season. Lovely cushioned touch set up disallowed goal.

Pablo Fornals 4

Asked to play from the right but struggled to get involved. Corner straight out of play summed up performance.

Danny Ings 4

Made decent opening for himself soon after Brentford second but lacks anything like Antonio’s presence. Unlucky to see goal chalked off.

Maxwel Cornet 2

Another who showed why chances have been few and far between this term. Entirely nullified.

Substitutes

Divin Mubama (Fornals 58’) 6

Unlucky to handball while trying to avoid collision with post.

Declan Rice (Soucek 58’) 6

Introduction coincided with West Ham improvement in last half-hour.

Said Benrahma (Cornet 58’) 6

Given a fine reception at home of his former club and made a positive impact.

Jarrod Bowen (Ings 83’)

Unused: Areola, Kehrer, Zouma, Cresswell, Paqueta
