West Ham secured a memorable penalty shootout victory over Manchester City to knock the holders out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Here’s how David Moyes’ side rates at the London Stadium...

Alphonse Areola 8

Smart save with his feet to deny Palmer in first-half and then better ones to keep out first De Bruyne and then Stones from the resulting corner. Topped off with a reaction tackle on Gundogan. Superb.

Ben Johnson 7

Vital goal-saving tackle on Gundogan early on and energy down the right again showed why right-back injury crisis has been averted in recent weeks.

Issa Diop 6

Fortunate not to be punished when giving Ake too much room at a set-piece on stroke of half-time and occasionally sloppy in possesion.

Craig Dawson 7

Good tackle on De Bruyne to deny City counter-attacking chance and smashed home a superb, crucial third penalty.

Aaron Cresswell 6

Dealt with an out-of-sorts Mahrez without too many problems, though bizarrely surrendered dead-ball duties to Noble for West Ham’s most promising free-kick position of the night. Scored his penalty.

Arthur Masuaku 6

Got forward as well as anyone and tested Steffen from a tight angle before being replaced for more naturally attacking options.

Mark Noble 5

Tested Steffen with a long range effort but is simply not up to it against this level of opposition at this stage of his career as he was too easily bypassed. Led by example with a confident first penalty.

Tomas Soucek 6

Moyes’ lack of midfield options denied him the rest that he probably needs but still provided an effective shield. Missed two glorious chances, though.

Manuel Lanzini 5

Was anonymous for the first hour, though not necessarily through fault of his own, but grew more involved after the personnel around him changed. Subbed.

Nikola Vlasic 5

Still yet to click and like Yarmolenko was guilty of surrendering valuable possession too easily. Hooked as Moyes went for it with half-an-hour to go.

Andriy Yarmolenko 4

Held up things up about as well as a broken shelf and hesitated by taking a touch when presented with his only real chance of the night.

Substitutes

Said Benrahma (Masuaku 62’) 7

Sent on as part of a triple change that shifted the mood in the ground, before scoring winning spot-kick.

Pablo Fornals (Vlasic 62’) 6

Harrying almost earned a late chance but did not give City backline too many problems.

Jarrod Bowen (Yarmolenko 62’) 6

Scored his penalty and added threat in behind to keep City backline on their toes.

Vladimir Coufal (Lanzini 82’) N/A

Huge ovation as he made a welcome from injury.

Unused: Randolph, Zouma, Ashby, Chesters, Baptiste
