West Ham manager Sam Allardyce says that he hopes to strengthen his side further, despite an already active transfer window at Upton Park.

The signing of Diego Poyet from Charlton, for an undisclosed fee, follows the acquisitions of Mauro Zarate, Aaron Cresswell and midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate from Anderlecht.

Reports had linked the Hammers with an audacious swoop for Liverpool and Tottenham target Yevhen Konoplyanka, but while Allardyce has confirmed that he's looking to further strengthen his squad, Standard Sport understands the Hammers have dropped their interest in the Ukrainian attacker.

"I think there are three or four positions - it depends on the budget," he told West Ham TV.

"You would say there is still room for a young central defender, particularly a left-footed one because we do run with three and not four.

"Ideally, you would have four." He added: "You would also say we need another left-back to go along with Aaron and I think a front-line player and the possibility of a midfield player as well."
