Winston Reid has rubbished claims that he is trying to force a move away from West Ham United before the close of the January transfer window.

It has been suggested over recent days that the central defender, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is being targeted by a number of clubs including Arsenal.

One national newspaper has reported that Reid has been actively seeking a move to the Emirates after Arsene Wenger hinted that the defender was one of his target's for this month's window.

But the 26-year-old has claimed that report was incorrect. On Twitter, he wrote: "Whoever wrote that story of me today is not true. Well done."

Sam Allardyce, the West Ham manager, has repeatedly told the defender to ignore speculation and concentrate on his time at Upton Park.

"We've done as much as we possibly can [to keep Reid]," Allardyce said earlier this month. "It was probably the longest [set of] negotiations I've ever seen with a player. Whether we can get there in the end, I'm not sure. That's in the chairman's hands, not mine.

“I just hope, with us doing so well this year, and us moving into the new stadium, is there a bigger or better club around than West Ham for Winston Reid? I’m not so sure there is, you know.”
