Highly-rated West Ham prospect Reece Oxford has joined Reading on loan until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old, who signed a four-and-a-half year contract in December after interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, will join the Royals in their push for Premier League promotion, with Jaap Stam’s side currently third in the Championship.

Oxford made his West Ham debut at just 16 years of age and is highly rated by Slaven Bilic, though first-team opportunities have been hard to come by at the London Stadium this season.

“This is a great loan move for Reece,” Bilic said. “He’s going to a club who are trying to get promotion and what’s really important for me is that the manager is one of the best centre-backs to have played in the last 20 years in the world.

“It’s a move that we should all benefit from; Reece, Reading and West Ham. I’m expecting him to come back here and play for us.”
