West Ham's Bobby Moore tributes to continue at Burnley home game

West Ham’s tributes to Bobby Moore to mark the 25th anniversary of his death with reach their peak on Saturday, with a number of plans to commemorate the occasion.

The Hammers legend lost a battle with cancer on February 24 in 1993, with the club marking the date on their away trip to Liverpool.

Since the game at Anfield, where each travelling fan was given a unique t-shirt, there have been a number of plans announced and a mural at London Stadium unveiled.

Ahead of the game against Burnley on Saturday, the first home game since the anniversary, West Ham will further their tributes. Members from the cup-winning squads from 1964 and 1965 will be presented ahead of the game, when a floral display will be laid in the centre-circle ahead of a minute’s applause.

Furthermore, in addition to the mural on the outer wall at the stadium, four new displays have been added on the concourse in Stratford as well as the 16 crests used by the club, and Thames Ironworks, since its inception. The crest will also be displayed by flag bearers ahead of kick-off.

West Ham manager David Moyes feels it is important the club remembers figures such as Moore.

“Well everyone knew about Bobby Moore, even a Scotsman like me, and what happened,” Moyes said.

“More importantly when you join a club you understand about legends and who the supporters look back at with fond memories and obviously Bobby was a tragic death and something e are right to celebrate as he was a great player here.

“There will be a lot of young and new supporters who never had the chance to see him so the need to be reminded from the older ones but to just remember the great players from this club.”
