West Ham's Kevin Nolan: Axe transfer window

West Ham captain Kevin Nolan today lent his weight to growing criticism of the January transfer window.

A group of Premier League managers, including West Ham’s Sam Allardyce, have criticised the present system, with Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp likening it to “gang warfare”.

Nolan said: “I don’t like the January window. It disrupts everything. During the summer I’m like all football fans — the TV is always on and I’m checking on who has gone where.

“This month, though, in the middle of the season, it’s different and I tend not to take much notice of the rumours. Mo Diame is an example — he’s going here, there and everywhere. It’s so disruptive for the players involved.

“It needs looking at — it may be exciting for the fans and the media but I sense this time that managers are getting sick and tired of it all.

“Even sitting with the gaffer for half an hour, you hear his phone ringing constantly. It must be a nightmare for him.”
