West Ham's third kit is a 'wonderful tribute' to the club's history, says Michail Antonio

West Ham forward Michail Antonio has praised the club’s new third kit for the 2017/18 season, commemorating their first ever strip.

The sky blue shirt, white shorts and black socks are inspired by the kit worn by the first ever side to play under the name West Ham United, having been originally formed as Thames Iron Works, in the 1900/01 season.

“I think it’s got a nice feel and it’s quality,” Antonio told Standard Sport.

“I really like the colour. It’s a wonderful tribute to West Ham United’s history and I’m looking forward to wearing it in front of the fans, on the pitch.”

The shirt, which will be worn by the squad for the first time when they travel to Crystal Palace at the end of October, also has the date 05.07.1900 along the neck line as a nod to the club’s start in life.

The usual club emblem has been replaced by the first known club crest which can be traced back to the 1923 FA Cup Final against Bolton Wanderers, the first football match to be played at Wembley Stadium.

The new kit follows on from last season’s all black commemorative shirt used for the London Stadium curtain raiser against Juventus.
