Picture exclusive: West Ham strengthen ties to past with kit launch

West Ham may have left their Upton Park roots when they moved to the London Stadium, but the Hammers are strengthening their connection to the past with their kit for the new season.

A host of Manuel Pellegrini’s current stars sat down with the FA Cup winning heroes of 1980 for a one-off in house ‘Gogglebox’ to watch that famous win over Arsenal, sealed by Sir Trevor Brooking’s early header.

The Hammers legend recalls that day alongside the current captain, Mark Noble, while the latest academy star Declan Rice gets a lesson in just how different football was all those years ago.

The new away kit harks back to that Cup final at Wembley as the club mark 40 years since they lifted the famous trophy.

The strips come as the latest nod to the past following on from a number of displays at the London Stadium and the opening of the Billy Bonds Stand last season.

The new kits are available to pre-order now and will go on sale on Thursday, June 13.
