Willian wants to play in both the Copa America and Olympic Games for Brazil this summer.

If Willian is involved in the two events, he will not get a proper summer break and miss out on a full pre-season under incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte as well as the first two League games of the season.

Chelsea are going to hold talks with Brazil and Willian in the hope of agreeing a compromise that will see the 27-year-old play in just one competition.

The club face a difficult task, though, because Brazil are under pressure to win both tournaments — especially the Olympics when, as hosts, they will be bidding to claim a first gold in the event.

Willian is cautious about becoming involved in a battle between club and country. He said: “Everyone knows my desire to play both championships. But of course we do not want to fight and put Chelsea in a difficult situation.

“And I do not want to fight with the Brazil Football Confederation. I hope they and Chelsea enter into an agreement [about my] release.”
