AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley has admitted that while everyone will be hurt by their loss to rivals MK Dons, he must temper his emotional and look at the performance.

Ardley’s side put in a valiant effort as Robbie Neilson brought his MK Dons side to Kingsmeadow, where they were referred to as simply ‘Milton Keynes’ on all official signage and in the programme, however could not find the back of the net.

The visitors, who were clinical with their few chances, put in a solid performance at the back and had ‘keeper Lee Nicholls to thank when he saved a second half penalty to preserve a clean sheet.

And while Ardley says he understands the magnitude of this game, he also says he must just focus on the performance.

“I’m not gonna stand here say that the boys were lifeless and didn’t try,” he said.

“I thought we were for most spells the better team when you actually look at the chances.

“This league is tougher than it’s ever been, there’s not one game where you think we should win this, but all we can do is say can we create chances? Can we have an intensity to our game? Can we look like we’re going to score?

“All we can do is keep trying to do that.

“But unfortunately I have to try and temper the emotion that I’m feeling now.

“I know there is a few people that are feeling the emotion and saying things but I have to temper it and look at the performance, we gave it everything we just got sucker punched today.”
