Learning opportunity: Szczesnyis expected to fall behind Cech in the pecking order at Arsenal

Petr Cech's arrival at Arsenal will hand Wojciech Szczesny the perfect opportunity to improve himself, former Gunners and Scotland goalkeeper Bob Wilson believes.

Cech is edging nearer to completing an £11 million move from Premier League champions Chelsea to London rivals Arsenal in the coming days.

The move is expected to see Arsenal shot-stopper David Ospina depart the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Fenerbahce already having contacted the Gunners about the 26-year-old.

Cech's arrival in north London is also likely to result in Arsenal's other goalkeeper, Szczesny, fall behind the 33-year-old in the pecking order.

But Wilson, who played for Arsenal between 1963 and 1974, thinks Cech's arrival at the Emirates Stadium will be a good learning curve for the Poland international.

"David Ospina did really well at the end of the season but he is at an age where he will want to play, like Petr Cech," Wilson told Sky Sports.

"With Wojciech Szczesny at 24 years of age, I would hope he would look on this as a real possibility of learning more from one of the great goalkeepers of the game."

Despite reports on Monday evening suggesting Cech's move to Arsenal had been completed, the goalkeeper used Twitter to confirm that the proposed transfer was not yet finalised.

However, the Czech international's Chelsea teammates are believed to be resigned to losing the 33-year-old to the Gunners, with Blues captain John Terry admitting Cech will save Arsenal up to 15 points next season.

And Wilson is confident the goalkeeper will help strengthen Arsenal's squad in their quest to challenge for the Premier League title next term.

"Arsenal are now in a very strong position," he added.

"They have paid off the (Emirates) stadium and have a very good squad with a really good group of British players in there.

He will be a huge step forward, it’s an improvement for the side, which is why you go for it."
