England will face Sweden in the World Cup quarter-finals if they beat Colombia in Tuesday's last-16 tie at Spartak Stadium.

The Three Lions face Jose Pekerman's side this evening bidding to win a knockout fixture for the first time in 12 years following a bleak run which dates back to the 2006 World Cup.

David Beckham’s free-kick secured a 1-0 win over Ecuador as England progressed to the quarter-finals, but defeats to Portugal, Germany, Italy and Iceland have followed at major tournaments since.

Ahead of the meeting with Colombia, Gareth Southgate warned: "We’ve been in this position before so it is pointless to even think what might happen after the game. We must focus on that and then everything will fall into place."

But if England do progress, they face a battle with Sweden for a place in the semi-finals.

England's last tournament meeting with Sweden came at Euro 2012, when the Three Lions won the group encounter 3-2 thanks to goals from Andy Carroll, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck.
