Former league club could return

Third Lanark are hoping to make a shock return to Scottish league football.

A four-man delegation held talks with the Scottish Football League at Hampden Park on Monday to discuss the possibility of filling the vacancy left by Gretna.

The original Third Lanark went bust in 1967 but were resurrected four years ago and have since gone from strength to strength in the amateur ranks.

Director Pat McGeady told the Scottish Daily Express: "It is my lifelong dream to get Third Lanark back playing at a good level and we are giving serious thought to an SFL application after meeting with them.

"We are serious about this approach to the SFL, but we will also look at setting up as a junior club should this not work out."
