A member of Channel 4's production team is isolating after contracting coronavirus ahead of this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.

It is understood that the individual returned a positive swab following a mandatory test upon their arrival in the Gulf Kingdom. A number of the Channel 4 team are also in quarantine as a precautionary measure.

David Coulthard, who won 13 races, and nine-time grand prix winner Mark Webber form part of the channel's Formula One line-up. The broadcaster screens the race highlights.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 told the PA news agency: "A member of the production team tested positive for Covid and is isolating along with some other members of the team however, thanks to contingency measures in place, we don't anticipate any impact to our coverage."

Two staff members at Aston Martin also returned positive tests when they landed in Bahrain this week.

A spokesperson for the British team said: "We can confirm that two of our staff have tested positive for Covid-19. We are taking all the necessary precautions."
