Newly crowned world champion Max Verstappen partied until 4.30 in the morning where he was played out to Queen’s We Are the Champions.

Verstappen was not declared the official winner of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and a first world title until hours after the race amid two Mercedes protests and counter arguments with Red Bull.

Following 90 minutes of initial celebrations at the W hotel at the track with team members, partners and sponsors, Verstappen decamped to the team’s private yacht in Yas Marina with the core racing team.

That included the likes of team principal Christian Horner, his wife and former Spice Girl Geri and Verstappen’s father, the ex-Formula 1 racer Jos.

Verstappen and Horner both retired for the night at 4.30 after the apt final song played out the new 2021 world champion.

The team’s mechanics then continued partying at the Radison Blu hotel bar where the team were staying for the course of the race weekend.

Red Bull’s team were flying back to the UK today where there are plans afoot for further celebrations with team members back at their Milton Keynes factory.
