Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has confirmed he will take part in the Supercars All Stars Eseries on Wednesday.

The suspension of the start of the 2020 Formula One season due to the coronavirus pandemic has given F1 drivers the freedom to explore their options in various eSports events.

And the Dutchman will take a wildcard entry into the second round of the Australian championship's virtual series, driving a Red Bull-branded V8 Holden Commodore Supercar for the two-race event.

Verstappen's entry suggests the 21-year-old will once again swerve the invitation to join the grid for F1's Virtual Grand Prix, which includes Red Bull team-mate Alex Albon amongst its participants.

“I’m looking forward to the race," Verstappen told Crash.net.

“It’s going to be a challenge as it’s not a car I’ve driven a lot on the sim, but they are pretty cool to watch in real life.

"We always race with Supercars in Melbourne so it’s going to be interesting to see how I get on against all the regular drivers. I’ve tried the Supercar now a few times on iRacing and it’s a very tricky car to get right.

“I’m looking forward to racing alongside my mate Shane, or Pastor, as I call him – he’s a top shunter on the sim.

“We race online a lot together so hopefully we can do well for Red Bull and it should be a bit of fun racing against the other V8 drivers as well.”

As reported by RaceFans, Verstappen told McLaren's Lando Norris he would "never join" the F1 eSports series as the F1 2019 game is unrealistic and his Supercars entry suggests he will not change his mind.

The Virtual Grand Prix moves on to China for its third instalment on Sunday after Guanyu Zhou and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc won the Bahrain Grand Prix and Albert Park race respectively.
