Foster makes shock run into England team

England coach Steve McClaren has named his team to play Spain at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

There was a surprise with Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster, who has impressed during his two seasons on loan at Vicarage Road from Manchester United, replacing Paul Robinson between the posts.

Former number two goalkeeper Wigan's Chris Kirkland was ruled out as he has not recovered from a shoulder injury and will remain with his club instead of linking up with McClaren's party.

Andrew Johnson (ankle), Wayne Bridge (thigh) and Jermaine Jenas (ankle) have also withdrawn while Owen Hargreaves has confirmed he will not play in the final match before England's crucial Euro 2008 qualifier in Israel next month.
