Frank dangles £500,000 carrot

13 April 2012

Matthew Ellis, who promoter Frank Warren wants to match with Audley Harrison in an eliminator for the British heavyweight championship, appears on the undercard to Takaloo?s world lightmiddleweight title defence at York Hall, Bethnal Green, tomorrow.

Now that he has lost Brixton?s Danny Williams to rival promoter Don King, Warren is determined to build-up the profile of Ellis, a former Amateur Boxing Association champion who made 18 appearances for England as an amateur and who has won 16 of his 18 professional bouts.

He has offered Harrison £500,000 for the fight, saying: ?I?m serious about this. I?ll even lodge the money with the Evening Standard to prove it.?

Takaloo, born Mehrdud Takalobigashi in Iran but now living in Margate, aims to celebrate his 26th birthday on Sunday by retaining his World Boxing Union title against Scott Dixon of Scotland the previous night.

Meanwhile, what is claimed to be the first British boxing promotion featuring amateur and professional fighters on the same bill will be staged at the Peacock Public House in Canning Town tomorrow.
