Freddie fury at head-butt

14 April 2012

Freddie Ljungberg today condemned Manchester United's Mikael Silvestre for head-butting him during last night's fiery clash at Highbury.

Silvestre was sent off for the incident which was sparked in the 67th minute after the French international fouled Dennis Bergkamp.

The clash led to an angry reaction from the Dutchman, who then tussled with United goalkeeper Roy Carroll.

While that was going on, Silvestre head-butted Ljungberg within yards of referee Graham Poll, who produced a straight red card.

Ljungberg said: "This kind of thing does not belong on a football pitch. He butted me on my nose and it bled. I got really angry but tried to keep calm. We were told before the game that whatever happened, we had to keep calm."
