Fresh blow for Fabio Capello as winger is ruled out

Out of action: Shaun Wright-Phillips has been ruled out of England duty

Shaun Wright-Phillips will miss England's World Cup qualifiers with Kazakhstan and Andorra next month due to a knee injury.

Fabio Capello, who announces his squad on Sunday, will have to rethink his plans after Manchester City pulled the winger from their final Premier League game against Bolton.

"Shaun trained earlier this week but he got a reaction," said City boss Mark Hughes. "Now he will have to see a specialist. He may well have a wash out of his knee in the close-season that would enable him to be fit for the start of pre-season training.

"He has worked really hard trying to get fit but this problem needs to be addressed and we must look at it."
