Frustrated Cole ends his career

Former England striker Andrew Cole has retired after his spell at Nottingham Forest ended in acrimony.

Cole quit the Championship club 11 days ago, frustrated by his lack of games since joining Colin Calderwood's side in the summer.

The 37-year-old, who had his best spells at Manchester United and Newcastle, told The Times today: 'It's not the ideal ending. It just wasn't working out. I told them from the outset I didn't want to go there to sit on the bench because I didn't want to be perceived as sitting back and making easy money. I wanted to go there and offer something."
