Fulham shell out on Konch

12 April 2012

Paul Konchesky became new Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez's fifth signing of the summer after he penned a four-year contract and ended his anguish at West Ham.

Konchesky's future at Upton Park looked uncertain when his former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley arrived last season and he made just four appearances after Alan Pardew's exit in December.

Fulham will not disclose the fee they have paid for the 26-year-old England international but it is believed to be around £2 million - adding to the £2.5 million Sanchez paid to Southampton for another full-back Chris Baird on Thursday.

The former Northern Ireland boss has already signed Aston Villa pair Aaron Hughes and Steve Davis and West Bromwich Albion striker Diomansy Kamara.

Konchesky revealed that Sanchez's plans for the Craven Cottage club convinced him to leave West Ham and told Fulham's official website: "When I knew that Fulham were interested in me I was really pleased.

"And when I met Lawrie and talked about his plans for the future here I was really impressed with what he had to say.

"It wasn't a difficult decision to make the switch across London. Obviously the club has made a few signings this window and so it's a case of us all settling in. I'm really looking forward to it."
