Gaffney plans busy week for Faz

12 April 2012

Saracens director of rugby Alan Gaffney admitted it was always unlikely Andy Farrell would play a part in the Guinness Premiership clash with Sale on Friday night.

Farrell was left on the bench in the 34-26 defeat at Edgeley Park, denying him the opportunity of playing against Jason Robinson for the first time. The flanker-cum-centre only made his competitive debut in the 15-man code last weekend in the win over Newcastle, and Gaffney revealed he was keeping Farrell in check for a run of reserve-team matches next week.

"Andy will be playing a full game on Monday night and he'll probably play a full game later in the week, so there was never really going to be an attempt to play him," he said. "Just to bring him on for the sake of bringing him on for the last 15 or 20 minutes just wasn't in the best interests of Andy. I brought him in as a multi-skilled bench player."
