Gambill 'horror' on Houston clay

Top seed Jan-Michael Gambill, ranked 15th in the world, crashed out of the US Clay Court Championships in Houston, losing 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in the first round to Norwegian qualifier Christian Ruud.

Gambill's big serve was not enough and, despite 15 aces, 50 percent of his first serves were faults. "My record on clay is horrifying," he said.
