Gardener named in GB team

12 April 2012

Jason Gardener will defend his 60metres title after being named in the Norwich Union GB team for next month's European Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

The 31-year-old, who finished a disappointing seventh in the weekend trials, will be chasing a fourth successive gold medal at the National Indoor Arena from March 2-4.

He was among 25 athletes announced in Tuesday's first wave of selections.

The 'Bath Bullet' will link up in the sprint alongside training partners Craig Pickering and Ryan Scott, who clinched automatic selection when finishing first and second at the trials in Sheffield.

Among the women, Nicola Sanders - who posted a world-leading 400metres time of 50.60 seconds at the trials - has accepted a place on the team after discussions with her coach Tony Lester.

The selectors will meet again to review results following the Norwich Union Grand Prix and the Indoor City Challenge Final, which both take place this weekend.

A final selection meeting will then be held on February 24.
