Gardener sets Greene's indoor record as target

14 April 2012

British sprinter Jason Gardener is determined to build on last summer's Olympic triumph and take the 60metres indoor world record from Maurice Greene.

The highlight of Gardener's career came when he, Darren Campbell, Marlon Devonish and Mark Lewis-Francis beat the Americans, including Greene, in the 4x100m relay in Athens.

Greene, who topped the 100m world rankings from 1997 to 2001, is still the world record holder over 60m.

But Gardener, who will be competing at the Norwich Union International in Glasgow tomorrow, said: "The only thing I have not done indoors is break the world record. But why not? I have had some good times in training and it is a possibility."
