Gayle completes Rangers switch

Wimbledon striker Marcus Gayle has completed his £1 million move to Rangers according the Ibrox club's official website.

The 30-year-old has completed his medical after flying in from London late last night and will be paraded at a press conference today.

Gayle will join forces with former Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo after agreeing terms with the Light Blues.

However the Jamaican international will not be eligible for the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Dundee United on Sunday but is expected to make his debut against Dundee at Ibrox next week.

The capture of Gayle will bring a much-needed boost for the injury-ravaged squad which is currently missing 11 first-team squad members.

Ironically, Gayle's old Wimbledon strike partner John Hartson almost became a Rangers player in September in a £6million deal but failed a medical.

The striker said today: "To be honest, I'm still in shock but I'm absolutely delighted to get the chance to represent such a great club.

"John has told me what a wonderful club this is. He just could not stop talking about how brilliant the whole set-up was. He was a very sad that it didn't work out for him in Glasgow.

"This is such a massive club to come to and I realise that it's going to be a major change to be playing in front of 50,000 in every home game.

"However, I have coped with playing in the Premiership and scored goals there.

"I have watched Rangers on TV and I've seen that Tore Andre has done well. I think most players in the Premiership watch games involving Rangers and Celtic and I have been impressed with players like Barry Ferguson, Jorg Albertz and Michael Mols."

Gayle played with Wimbledon for eight years having been signed by Joe Kinnear from Brentford, making 445 appearances and scoring 73 goals.
