Giants snap up Brough

Huddersfield finally got their man on Wednesday after thrashing out a deal to take Wakefield's goalkicking half-back Danny Brough to the Galpharm Stadium.

The 26-year-old Brough, who has been on Giants coach Nathan Brown's radar for more than 12 months, joins Huddersfield immediately having signed a contract to the end of the 2014 season.

In exchange for the former Scotland captain, Wakefield will receive an undisclosed cash sum plus second rower forward Danny Kirmond, 24, and prop Michael Korkidas, 29. Korkidas is already at Belle Vue, having joined the Wildcats on loan last May, and will be contracted to the end of 2011 while Kirmond is moving to Wakefield on loan to the end of this season.

Brown said: "I've admired Danny's game since I came to the UK and it will be fantastic to be able to work with him and integrate him into our team over the coming weeks and months.

"Out-and-out half-backs with outstanding kicking games and genuine speed are becoming a rarity, so he will give us another string to our bow in the squad."

Brough, who has previously played for York, Castleford and Hull, said: "I'm glad that all the speculation has now ended and my future is settled.

"I would like to thank the Wakefield club and their fans for their support of me. In particular, I have enjoyed working with John Kear, who has been great to me for a long time.

"I felt ready for a new challenge at a new club and in Huddersfield with Nathan Brown I think the opportunity presents itself for me to play in big games.

"The Huddersfield squad is very strong and I'm looking forward to getting stuck into training with them and trying to force my way into the team."
