Godwin facing three-month lay-off

12 April 2012

Bradford hooker Wayne Godwin is facing a lay-off of at least three months after breaking his right leg in the Bulls' 44-10 engage Super League defeat at Wigan.

The former Castleford and Wigan player, who turns 27 this week, fell awkwardly trying to tackle man-mountain Iafeta Paleaaesina and was carried from the field on a stretcher. He was taken to hospital where an x-ray confirmed he had fractured his tibia.

With fellow hooker Terry Newton sustaining an arm injury in the same match and with forwards Andy Lynch, Jamie Langley and David Solomona already sidelined through injury, the Bulls face an anxious time as they prepare to take on a resurgent Hull at Odsal next Sunday.

Held to a draw in their opening game and beaten by Huddersfield at home for the first time for 40 years, the Bulls have made their worst ever start to a Super League campaign.

They conceded seven tries to Warriors in a one-sided clash at the JJB Stadium that left coach Steve McNamara physically shaken.

"What really disappointed me was a lack of energy - not effort - but we had no energy or intensity to our game and I need to get to the bottom of that because we haven't been like that in our last two games," he said.

"Losing by a scoreline like that rather than it being a close one probably helps us in some way because it gives us a kick up the backside we probably need."
