The Football Association have received one piece of good news this week after they were granted planning permission to build the St George's Park national football centre in Burton-upon-Trent.

East Staffordshire Borough Council have approved the FA's plans for the site, which will be the training base for the senior England team and 21 other squads supported by the FA.

England manager Fabio Capello told www.thefa.com: "The venue will be an inspirational site, a place for coaches and players to work, learn and develop."

He added: "This is a much-needed facility and through my own experiences at Coverciano in Italy, I understand the importance of the centre for England."

The FA have been asked by FIFA to prepare a report as part of an investigation into comments about England's rival bidders for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup allegedly made by former FA chairman Lord Triesman.
