Harrington's still second best

13 April 2012

Padraig Harrington has now finished second 20 times in his golf career after yet another near-miss in the Madrid Open.

But it was England's Paul Casey who was left feeling empty after Argentinian Ricardo Gonzalez pipped him for the title as well.

Four shots ahead after three rounds, 26-year-old Casey finished with a one-over-par 72 while both Gonzalez and Harrington came charging through with six-under-par rounds of 65.

"I felt I had at least one hand on the trophy, but I had 36 putts and you can't win a tournament with that number," said Casey who also tied for second with Nick O'Hern of Australia and Sweden's Marten Olander.

Harrington and Casey now compete in the season-ending Volvo Masters, starting at Valderrama on Thursday, and with a first prize of more than £400,000 they each have the chance to finish third on the Order of Merit behind Ernie Els and Darren Clarke.
