Harris: Union is streets ahead

Peter Jackson13 April 2012

Iestyn Harris has given Leeds renewed notice that he will quit rugby league at the end of his contract in two years' time and cross the divide to union.

The 24-year-old stand-off-cum-full back, for whom Wales offered £500,000 last year, insists that his move is only a matter of time.

His long-term schedule means that Wales' captain at next month's league World Cup will be available for the much bigger union version in 2003. 'At international level, union is streets ahead of League and that's what interests me - the international scene,' he said. 'I've still got things to achieve with Leeds but it remains a burning ambition of mine to play union once I come out of contract when I will be 26.' Llanelli have banned two of their forwards, England A flanker Alex Bennett and uncapped Welsh prop Martyn Madden, pending an investigation into an off-field incident involving the players.
