Harry Findlay's Guineas gamble on Inler

Colourful owner Harry Findlay is taking a massive gamble with once-raced colt Inler because he believes he will win the first Classic of the season.

Inler's price was halved to 16-1 for the 2,000 Guineas after he produced a piece of work yesterday described by his trainer John Best as "absolutely brilliant".

And professional punter Findlay is hoping that he has made the right decision in keeping the son of Red Ransom. "I got offered a lot of money for Inler last year and I turned it down," Findlay said.

"That's a big gamble for me because anyone else in my financial position would have sold him for sure but we really expect a lot of him.
"In fact, I think that he'll win the Guineas. I've seen a lot of work that he does and he looks great."

Inler, who runs in the name of Findlay's mother Margaret, was a four-length winner of a Newmarket maiden on his sole start in October. He is set to return there for the Guineas in May after gaining more experience, with a race at Leicester on 8 April pencilled in beforehand.

After watching him produce a scintillating spin on Mick Channon's gallops, Best said: "I was shocked by his work. He was absolutely brilliant.

"He worked with a five-furlong horse and did it so easily. If he stays a mile then he'll be some horse. He is bred for it, though."
