Henman recovers to go through

12 April 2012

Tim Henman overcame a terrible start against Argentinian teenager Juan Martin del Potro to reach the quarter-final of the Japan Open in Tokyo with a 7-6 6-3 win.

Del Potro, 18, wasted little time in the clash delayed due to rain and he raced into a 4-1 lead in the opening set. However, the 32-year-old Henman used his experience to get back in the match and he forced a tie-break, which he took 7-3.

The 10th-seeded Briton carried on his momentum in the second set, breaking immediately and wrapping up a 7-6 (7/3) 6-3 victory in the third-round clash.

Henman, ranked 55 in the world, will play third-seeded Croatian Mario Ancic in the last eight.
