Hodgson guides Giants to victory

Winger David Hodgson ran in a second-half hat-trick for Huddersfield as they claimed a convincing 40-12 win over Super League basement side Crusaders.

However, the result was overshadowed by a sin-binning and a serious-looking injury after the final hooter.

Crusaders' forward Jason Chan was shown a yellow for a poor late challenge on Giants skipper Kevin Brown, who was left in a heap on the pitch and needed treatment for 10 minutes before the game could end.

The injury could be a huge blow for the Giants as the stand-off, who scored one try and made another, was in imperious form before being taken out.

Hull KR ran in 14 tries to keep their play-off hopes alive with an emphatic 70-14 demolition of Wakefield at Craven Park.

Wakefield had no answer to a four-try blitz from Rovers in the final nine minutes of the first half that helped ease the pressure on under-fire coach Justin Morgan.

They could even afford the luxury of missing seven goal attempts from the usually reliable Michael Dobson.

Rovers' first back-to-back league wins of the season keeps them in touch of the top eight in the Engage Super League.

Kris Welham, Liam Colbon and former Wakefield winger Peter Fox all scored hat-tricks.
