Holdsworth returns to Wimbledon

Dean Holdsworth today rejoined Wimbledon despite the club's transfer embargo.

The striker, who scored 76 goals for the club in the mid-1990s, has arrived on a non-contract basis which will allow him to play in their pre-season tour of Finland.

Wimbledon are banned from signing new players permanently while they are in administration and would need permission from the Football League for Holdsworth to play this season.

A League spokesman said: "We made no final decision on whether he can play permanently at this stage."

Holdsworth will replace Neil Shipperley, who was today set to complete his move to Crystal Palace. He will become the second player to leave Wimbledon since they went into administration, following Damien Francis's £375,000 transfer to Norwich.
