Shots on his goal were at a premium and what did come his way he dealt with confidently. Had no chance with the goal. 7/10

Lauren

Not his best game. He was unnerved by thrusts down the line by Oyvind Storflor and conceded several free-kicks in dangerous areas. 6/10

Kolo Toure

He had the strength in the tackle and in the air to keep Arsenal solid. His partnership with Sol Campbell grows all the time. 7/10

Sol Campbell

Powerful, dominant and approaching his best after long lay-off. His return has come at a crucial time for club and country. 7/10

Ashley Cole

Arsenal's star man. Energy to burn and utilised space down the left flank. Dependable at the back and assisted attacks. 8/10

Freddie Ljungberg

Ran Cole close as best player but Cole edged it because of his defensive contribution. Scored the early goal and was a frequent menace. 7/10

Patrick Vieira

As usual never shirked a tackle but was sometimes casual in his use of the ball. Was never completely at ease. 6/10

Edu

Only in the last 20 minutes did he show his true touch. His work rate and effort could not be faulted but he failed to deliver too often. 6/10

Robert Pires

Was unsettled by the physical approach of Rosenborg in his role as shadow striker. Much happier as a wide midfield man. 6/10

Jose Reyes

He gave the ball away with alarming regularity. Found his touch late on but spoiled his forward surges with erratic crosses or shots. 5/10

Thierry Henry

He suffered from service of variable quality but looked irresistible when he got the ball in the right place at the right time. 7/10

Substitutes: Robin van Persie - (for Pires, 82 minutes ). Had neither time nor opportunity to make his mark in a frantic game. 5

Arsene Wenger

May have been better advised to keep Pires on the left and partner Reyes with Henry but otherwise was tactically spot on. His team created chances but he will rue their failure to convert them. 7/10
