How Chelsea's players rated

14 April 2012
Marco Ambrosio

Could not be faulted for the first two goals but should have done better with the third. Let down by those in front of him. 6/10

Wayne Bridge

Solid defensively and got forward well, with one cross that merited better than a lame Hasselbaink header. 6/10

John Terry

Did his best to stem the tide but struggled with the pace of Ludovic Giuly. One to forget for a star of Chelsea's season. 5/10

Marcel Desailly

Not the player of old and should be replaced by William Gallas for the second leg, and may be suspended anyway. 4/10

Mario Melchiot

Given a difficult evening by Jerome Rothen and Patrice Evra down the left, may have changed result if he'd stayed on. 5/10

Frank Lampard

The only Chelsea player unfortunate to be on the losing side, producing his usual excellence. Deserves a rest. 7/10

Claude Makelele

His reckless effort summed up the evening, losing discipline after a deserved booking for a disgraceful dive. 4/10

Scott Parker

Looked out of his depth for the first time since his move to Chelsea, no more so than when filling in for Melchiot. 5/10

Jesper Gronkjaer

Did little in the first-half and was deservedly substituted, though replacement Juan Veron fared little better. 5/10

Hernan Crespo

Took his goal well but, as has been the case all season, contributed nothing else of note. And as for that haircut... 5/10

Eidur Gudjohnsen

Produced some good link-up play and got into excellent positions only to let himself down by poor finishing. 6/10

Substitutes: Juan Veron - Some nice touches but disappeared when the going got tough. 5/10. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - Missed chance to score and may not get another opportunity. 5/10. Robert Huth - Uncomfortable at right-back. 5/10

The manager: Claudio Ranieri The Tinkerman may have rearranged his toy soldiers once too often, and not even his boyish charm can save him. Roman Abramovich's sword has been plunged further into his body and is preparing to pierce his heart. 4/10
