Hughes snaps up Broncos

William Kings13 April 2012

The London Broncos will extend their 21-year stay in the capital thanks to the rescue efforts of David Hughes.

Hughes, who initially held a 20 per cent share in the Broncos franchise ended weeks of doubt for the club by buying out Virgin?s 80 per cent stake to become the sole owner.

Hughes was quick to pay tribute to the role Virgin has played in keeping the game alive in the capital especially in light of the fact that the company, despite their withdrawal, has cleared the club?s debts and also agreed a £1 million, two-year sponsorship deal.

The search now begins for a new home for the club, whose alliance with Charlton ends at the end of the season. Millwall, Leyton Orient and Dulwich Hamlet have been mentioned as possibilities.

Hughes said: ?We have until February to find somewhere and we are talking to two or three people.

?We might go for a merger like we had with Charlton but the big thing now is that we go into next season raring to go.Whatever we decide it will be in London.?
