Hunt handed free

Stephen Hunt was today given a free transfer by Brentford. The left-winger, 23, is surplus to requirements at Griffin Park following the signing of John Salako.

Manager Martin Allen said: "After discussions with the player and his agent, it's been decided to give Stephen a free transfer to help him further his career at another club.''

Hunt had a year remaining on his contract and was placed on the transfer list last week. He has been linked with a move to Reading where he could join up with former manager Steve Coppell.

Meanwhile, defender Matt Somner and goalkeeper Alan Julian are in talks with Wycombe.
