Hurst happy with fab Capello

Sir Geoff Hurst believes Fabio Capello will bring a sense of "discipline" to the England squad.

The 61-year-old Italian is set to be officially unveiled in London on Monday as the new national-team boss, with the Football Association sure they have secured a 'world-class' coach to lead England into the 2010 World Cup.

"You could not argue with his credentials as a manager, he has been very successful," Hurst told BBC Radio Five Live Sportsweek Programme. "He seems to be quite a disciplinarian. All the stars have to play for him and they have to earn their places."

Hurst scored a hat-trick in the 1966 final at Wembley, which remains England's only victory in an international tournament.

Hurst feels there is the potential to eclipse those achievements with the so-called 'Golden Generation', given the right guidance from the head coach.

"That is very encouraging for the team.

"We had that in our time with the manager [Sir Alf Ramsay], the discipline with a group of super players. There was no individual star who felt they were bigger than anybody else."

Hurst, 66, added: "You are a manager, and you need to be managing players.

"You do not need to coach [Frank] Lampard how to kick a ball, or Steven Gerrard how to play.

"You need to manage the group with a strong discipline to get the best out of them. The way England have been playing is not as a team, which stems from strong discipline and a strong team ethic."
