Hutchison 'out for 10 months'

Ken Dyer13 April 2012

West Ham manager Glenn Roeder stepped up his search for an emergency loan signing today following the news that midfielder Don Hutchison is likely to be out of action for the rest of the year.

Hutchison, signed for £5 million from Sunderland in September, injured a knee during West Ham's 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday and a scan has revealed that the Scotland international has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

"It's devastating news for Don," said Roeder today. "Don will have an operation to repair the ligament when the swelling subsides but it's a bad injury and he could be out for up to 10 months."

With Northern Ireland international Steve Lomas also out with a knee injury for the next three weeks and England star Michael Carrick still not fit following a groin injury, Hutchison's injury leaves Roeder desperately short of midfielders.

The West Ham manager has no funds to strengthen his squad and said: "We're working hard to bring in a loan signing but it's not easy.

"If not though, it's a chance for someone here to make his mark."
