I don't just want a pretty team, I want a winning one, Fulham's Hodgson fumes

13 April 2012

A furious Roy Hodgson has told his players to stop playing pretty and start playing to win.

allowed Torino to come back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in a friendly at Craven Cottage, a result which followed the 1-1 draw at Birmingham, where they also surrendered the lead.

The usually unflappable Hodgson said: 'I can only hope we don't make the same mistakes in the League.

'We gifted our opponents the result. I'm very angry about it. Every day in training we make certain the players get the message with regard to their attacking and defending.

'Against Torino we saw signs of what we wanted and on those occasions we saw a good team. When we didn't see signs of it, we saw a pretty team. I want a winning team.'

With new recruit Andrew Johnson watching from the stands, the few positives for boss Hodgson came from how Seol Ki-Hyeon laid on goals for Bobby Zamora and Zoltan Gera, and a brilliant point-blank save by Mark Schwarzer from Aimo Diana.
