I'll make it third time lucky, insists Grant

13 April 2012

Avram Grant has vowed to succeed where his predecessor Jose Mourinho failed by making it third time lucky for Chelsea against Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Grant's side stumbled through to the last four but despite the rocky performance, the Israeli pledged to deliver the trophy Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich covets above all others, even refusing to rule out an historic European and domestic Double.

Last four: Grant has steered Chelsea through to the semi-finals

'Of course I believe we can win the competition,' claimed Grant. 'I am optimistic by nature. I believed after the draw with Rosenborg. At the time, we were also some points behind in the Premier League, but I said we could do good things this season. Now we are close to achieving that. I feel good because our target was to be in the semi-finals and we did it. It was not easy, though. I know at Fenerbache we played much better than tonight. We started well here but then we were a bit nervous. But most important was the result.'

On the prospect of taking on Liverpool yet again, Frank Lampard admitted there is little either side have left to learn about each other.

'It's amazing how often we have been in this situation,' he said. 'We have been to Liverpool, we know everything about them and they know everything about us. It will be a tough game and it's important we show the same concentration we showed tonight.'
