Rising star: Ian Poulter is currently ranked ninth in the world

Ian Poulter is being driven by the fact he could reach a career-high fifth in the rankings by getting to the final of the Accenture Match Play Championship on Sunday.

Poulter is ninth in the world and his two and one victory over Adam Scott in Arizona set up today's clash with Indian Jeev Milkha Singh, ranked 60th.

Poulter and fellow Englishman Paul Casey are the only top-10 seeds to reach the last 16, boosting the 34-year-old's chances of a landmark weekend.

"I've had a good look at how high I can go and been punching numbers on my iPhone to know exactly," he said. "It would be a nice position — I'd be very happy."

Casey, runner-up last year, faces world No55 Brian Gay, from America.
