Injury rules out Anelka

13 April 2012

Manchester City striker Nicolas Anelka has been ruled of the FA Cup match against Manchester United as he has failed to recover from a groin strain.

Manager Kevin Keegan said: 'He desperately wanted to play but he can't do all the things you need to do.'

The Frenchman's absence - he is due to start a three-match suspension next week- means Jon Macken is likely to partner Robbie Fowler up front.

Iceland goalkeeper Arni Arason is set to return at Old Trafford as David James is ineligible.

Defender Sun Jihai is away on World Cup duty for China while Trevor Sinclair remains sidelined with a calf injury.
