Injury rules out KP

Kevin Pietersen will miss England's three-match NatWest Series against Bangladesh because of the thigh injury he suffered against Australia at Lord's.

Pietersen, whose search for a first one-day international 50 extended to 16 innings after his duck on Saturday, hurt himself while fielding.

He was replaced, in a 13-man squad for the series which starts at Trent Bridge on Thursday, by Jonathan Trott - while Graeme Swann is to be rested, with James Tredwell the like-for-like alternative selection.

Pietersen is to undergo further assessment of the injury in his left leg this week but is, in any case, sure to require a short rehabilitation period - which has therefore ruled him out of the ODI campaign against Bangladesh.

Swann, who has been a constant for England in all formats for so long, will be available to Nottinghamshire for LV= County Championship cricket to help him prepare for the forthcoming npower Test series against Pakistan.

National selector Geoff Miller said: "It's unfortunate that Kevin Pietersen has suffered an injury - and although we'll know the full extent in due course, it looks like he'll be able to make a full recovery very quickly.

"Graeme Swann has been involved in all forms of the game for some time now, and this forthcoming period has been identified as the best opportunity to ensure he has a suitable break before a demanding schedule this summer and during the winter.

"James Tredwell and Jonathan Trott have previously been involved with the England one-day set-up and will be excellent additions to the full England squad from the England Lions.

"Both have been in good form for the Lions and will relish the opportunity to make their mark in limited overs at the top level."

England's NatWest Series squad to face Bangladesh: AJ Strauss (captain, Middlesex), JM Anderson (Lancashire), IR Bell (Warwickshire), TT Bresnan (Yorkshire), SCJ Broad (Nottinghamshire), PD Collingwood (Durham), C Kieswetter (wkt, Somerset), EJG Morgan (Middlesex), A Shahzad (Yorkshire), JC Tredwell (Kent), IJL Trott (Warwickshire), LJ Wright (Sussex), MH Yardy (Sussex).
