Inzamam's punctual start on D-Day

12 April 2012

Inzamam-ul-Haq arrived promptly for the second day of his disciplinary hearing this morning as he waits to discover whether he will face a lengthy ban from the International Cricket Council.

The Pakistan captain faces two charges relating to the controversial ending of the final Test against England last month, which became the first in history to be forfeited.

He is charged with bringing the game into disrepute after his side initially refused to play on after tea on the fourth day in protest at being accused of ball-tampering and also, as captain, of changing the condition of the ball.

If he is found guilty of either or both charges Inzamam could face a lengthy ban which would almost certainly rule him out of next month's Champions Trophy tournament in India - a competition which Pakistan would be among the favourites to win.

The verdict is expected later today after all the evidence was heard yesterday, and Inzamam was driven through the gates shortly after 9am this morning alongside Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer to hear his fate.

Controversial umpire Darrell Hair, whom Pakistan blame for inflaming the situation, was the first to arrive at the Oval this morning - stepping out of his taxi shortly before 9am.

Inzamam and Woolmer were driven through the gates next and were soon followed by senior match referee Ranjan Madugalle, who is chairing the hearing and has between 30 minutes and 24 hours of the hearing ending to give his decision.

Just like the opening day Billy Doctrove, the other on-field umpire, and match referee Mike Procter arrived in a taxi together - and the line-up of key figures was completed with Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shahryar Khan arriving last at 9.30am.
